Amiga 500 · rev 8A

Rev 8A (board 312812, the same as the A500+ without the clock [2]) has 17 through-hole radial electrolytics. The µF values agree between the Console5 list [1] and the amigapcb.org component database [2]; the voltages come only from Console5. The positions were taken from amigapcb.org [2].

Before you start

  • There are no SMD electrolytics here, only through-hole radials [2], and the A500 is not on the amigawiki list of machines with leaking SMD parts [3]. A recap is not as urgent as on an A600 or an A1200: replace them if they are bulging, leaking or if there are symptoms.
  • Always work with the power supply unplugged from the mains and from the board. The external power supply has its own capacitors, which are not on this list, and the 230 V side is not something to open at home.
  • The voltages come from the Console5 list, which Console5 itself marks as unconfirmed [1]. Read the voltage printed on each capacitor and use the same or higher, never lower.
  • Here C307, C401 and C402 are 1000 µF [1][2], not 470 and 3300 µF as on rev 6A. A rev 6A kit will not fit as it is.
  • amigapcb.org also shows a 4.7 µF C913, from the clock circuit [2], which Console5 does not list [1]. We left it off the map because we don't know the voltage or whether it is fitted on the A500. If yours has an electrolytic there, read the value on its body.
  • Observe the polarity marked on the silkscreen and photograph the board before removing the old ones. If you find broken traces or damaged chips, bring the board to the shop.
