Amiga 500 · rev 6A

Rev 6A (and 7) has 17 through-hole radial electrolytics. Values and voltages from the Commodore parts list [1][2], with the µF confirmed in the amigawiki schematic [3] and the Console5 list [4]. We did not find a drawing of this revision: the positions are estimated from revs 5 and 8A and are there to help you find your way. Always check the reference on the silkscreen.

Before you start

  • There are no SMD electrolytics here, only through-hole radials [1], and the A500 is not on the amigawiki list of machines with leaking SMD parts [5]. A recap is not as urgent as on an A600 or an A1200: replace them if they are bulging, leaking or if there are symptoms.
  • Always work with the power supply unplugged from the mains and from the board. The external power supply has its own capacitors, which are not on this list, and the 230 V side is not something to open at home.
  • Console5 gives C306 and C712 as 35 V and 50 V and C821 and C822 as 16 V [4]; Commodore gives 16 V for the first two and 35 V for the last two [1][2]. We follow Commodore. C821 and C822 filter the +12 V and −12 V rails [3], so don't skimp on voltage.
  • The Console5 list also includes C615 and C722 [4], which do not exist in the Commodore list or schematic for rev 6A [1][3]. If your kit includes them, they are spares.
  • Compared with rev 5, C307 goes from 100 to 470 µF and the +5 V filtering now has six 100 µF parts, C811 to C816 [1]. A rev 5 kit will not fit as it is.
  • C812, C813, C815 and C816 are the ones that move between revisions; on the map they are where they sit on rev 8A. Check each one by the silkscreen and the polarity mark before desoldering. If you find broken traces or damaged chips, bring the board to the shop.
