Commodore CDTV · rev 2.3
The CDTV main board has forty-one through-hole radial electrolytics in the Commodore parts list [1]; thirty-nine are here, with the µF confirmed in the schematic from the same manual [2]. The positions are approximate, measured on a photograph of a rev 2.3 [3]: always confirm the reference on the silkscreen.

Before you start
- The CDTV has its power supply inside the case, connected directly to 230 V. Before opening it, unplug the cable from the mains and wait a few minutes. Don't touch the power supply or the cables running from it to the board (CN21 and CN22): its capacitors are not on this list, the power supply holds charge even when unplugged, and it is not something to repair at home.
- There are no SMD electrolytics here, only through-hole radials [1]. It is not as urgent as a CD32 or an A1200: replace them if they are bulging, leaking or if there are symptoms, especially in the audio area, where most of them are.
- We left C171 and C172 out: the parts list gives them as 4.7 µF 25 V [1] and the schematic as 22 µF [2], and both sources are from Commodore. They are on the audio lines that go to the U19 attenuator [2]. Replace them too, but read the value and voltage off the ones on your board.
- The parts list doesn't say which board revision it refers to. On the rev 2.3 photograph [3] we found all the ones listed here, but if your board is a different revision, confirm each one. The same list also includes a C1 and C2 of 47 µF 16 V, which are not from this board: here C1 is 100 pF and C2 is 3300 µF [1][2].
- Observe the polarity of each one. C54 is the one on the negative side of the audio: the positive goes to ground and the negative to −12 V (−AV) [2]. Fitted the wrong way round, it can burst.
- The replacement's voltage can be the same as the original or higher, never lower. If you find corroded traces or damaged chips, bring the board to the shop [4].
