Amiga 500 Plus · rev 8A.1

The A500+ rev 8A.1 has 17 through-hole radial electrolytics, with the same µF values and in the same places as the A500 rev 8A: confirmed in the Rämixx500 remake [1], the Console5 list [2] and amigapcb.org [3]. The voltages come from Console5 [2]. On this board, the biggest danger is the clock battery, not the capacitors [1].

17 capacitors

Before you start

  • The rechargeable clock battery is soldered to the board and, with age, leaks an alkaline liquid that corrodes the traces and components around it [1]. If it is still there, remove it before you even think about the recap.
  • There are no SMD electrolytics here, only through-hole radials [1], and the A500+ is not on the amigawiki list of machines with leaking SMD parts [4]. Replace them if they are bulging, leaking or if there are symptoms.
  • Always work with the power supply unplugged from the mains and from the board. The external power supply has its own capacitors, which are not on this list, and the 230 V side is not something to open at home.
  • The voltages come from the Console5 list, which Console5 itself marks as unconfirmed [2]. Read the voltage printed on each capacitor and use the same or higher, never lower.
  • C913 (4.7 µF, from the clock circuit [1][3]) was left off the map because no source gives the original voltage. It sits near the battery: if there is corrosion, check it too.
  • The Rämixx500 changed the lead spacing of C303, C304 and C306 [1], so on the original board these may be a millimetre or two to one side. Observe the silkscreen polarity. If the battery has already corroded traces, bring the board to the shop.
